In 2001 Dr. Lenore Manderson, a medical anthropologist living in Melbourne Australia, lost the use of her left hand while writing 'Surface Tensions; a book based on her research on trauma to the body.  Nerve follows Manderson's struggles with her sudden disability and her journey to discover a new identity and sense of self.
